NILA First Vice President, Ebere Nwokoro Reflects On 2024 Milestones, Looks Ahead To 2025
As the year 2024 draws to a close, Prince Ebere Nwokoro, the First Vice President of the Nigerian Immigration Lawyers Association (NILA), has expressed profound gratitude to members of the association for their dedication, hard work, and commitment throughout the year.
In a year-end statement, Nwokoro highlighted the remarkable achievements of the association despite a challenging and unpredictable year. “We have leveraged challenges as opportunities for growth and innovation,” he remarked, celebrating the collective efforts of members in advancing NILA’s objectives.
Key milestones for 2024 included:
- The Special General Meeting (SGM): Held successfully on March 21, 2024.
- The Knowledge Sharing Webinar: Collaborated with the NBA Eti-Osa Branch on March 27, 2024, to foster professional growth among members.
- Launch of the NILA Website: Providing free advertisement tools for financially up-to-date members, enhancing visibility and client engagement.
- Policy Advocacy: Submission of a formal comment on the controversial EEL Policy to the Minister of Interior.
- NILA Immigration Law and Policy Conference: A groundbreaking event in November 2024, bringing experts and stakeholders together.
- Inaugural NILA Law Journal: Official publication and presentation of the maiden edition showcasing members’ intellectual contributions.
The year also celebrated the individual accomplishments of members, including:
- The coronation of NILA President and Board Chairman, HRM Obi (Prof.) Epiphany Azinge, SAN, as the 14th Asagba of Asaba.
- The conferment of professorial rank on Trustee Professor Roland Otaru, PhD, SAN.
- Recognition of Attorney Johnson Babalola, Chair of the Global Mobility Sub-Committee, as one of Canada’s 100 most influential Black Canadians.
- Participation of Mrs. Pamilerin Akabunwa, Assistant Publicity Secretary, in several international conferences as a panelist.
Looking ahead to 2025, Nwokoro reaffirmed NILA’s commitment to promoting a just and equitable immigration system. “We will approach the new year with renewed energy and determination,” he stated, emphasising the association’s focus on progress and innovation.
