Christian Lawyers, Journalists Applaud Governor Bala Mohammed’s Creation Of Sayawa Chiefdom, Advocate Caution Amid Disputes

A coalition of Christian lawyers and journalists in Bauchi State has commended Governor Bala Mohammed for establishing the Sayawa Chiefdom, describing it as a decisive step toward fostering peace and development for the Sayawa people, a historically marginalized group.
The Joint Assembly of Christian Lawyers and Journalists (JACLJ) lauded the governor’s initiative, noting that it has garnered widespread approval from Nigerians, particularly ethnic minorities and advocates for peace across the nation.
Despite the praise, JACLJ has urged restraint amidst controversy surrounding the decision to site the chiefdom’s headquarters in Tafawa Balewa town. In a statement, the group expressed concern over reactions from certain Islamic groups and clerics who have opposed the move, calling on dissenters to pursue grievances through legal and constructive channels instead of resorting to personal attacks or inflammatory criticism.
JACLJ emphasized the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence, urging traditional leaders, interest groups, and religious organizations to rise above divisions and work towards harmony. The group’s position has been echoed by the National Coalition of Christian Youths in Politics (NACOCYP), which also endorsed the governor’s decision as a positive development for the Sayawa people.
The establishment of the Sayawa Chiefdom has sparked significant debate, with opposition from some quarters. However, the calls from JACLJ and NACOCYP underscore the need for a peaceful resolution and respect for the governor’s authority in navigating this sensitive issue.
Governor Bala Mohammed’s decision to create the Za’ar Sayawa Chiefdom reflects his commitment to inclusivity and the pursuit of enduring peace in Bauchi State. Advocates are hopeful that all parties will prioritize dialogue and collaboration to achieve a shared vision of progress for the region.
