Akwa Ibom Governor Appoints Six New High Court Judges
Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has approved the appointment of six new judges to serve in the state high court. The announcement was made on Thursday, December 12, by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah.
The newly appointed judges are:
- Mfon Winifred Umohandi
- Bassey James Ekanem
- Bassey Iwakaowo Essien
- Comfort Henry Morrison
- Edet Ekpo Ntekim
- Sharon Julius Eddie
According to Uwah, the appointments were made following recommendations from the National Judicial Council (NJC), led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
The swearing-in ceremony for the new judges is scheduled to take place on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, at 4 PM.
The appointments come after the NJC’s November recommendation for the elevation of 36 legal professionals across four states, including the six judges in Akwa Ibom. The move is seen as a significant step toward strengthening the state’s judiciary and ensuring justice delivery.
