Ekiti Governor Honours Late CJ With N300m Transformer Project
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has approved a N300 million fund for the procurement of transformers for communities in Ekiti East Local Government Area that lack electricity. This gesture is in honor of the late Chief Judge of the state, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, and is part of fulfilling his final request.
Governor Oyebanji, speaking at the funeral service for the late CJ in his hometown, Araromi Ugbeshi, on Friday, explained that the project was a reflection of Adeyeye’s commitment to public service and community development. He added that it serves as a way to perpetuate the late jurist’s legacy in Ekiti East and beyond.
The Governor recalled that when he assumed office, Adeyeye reminded him of his campaign promise to provide electricity to Ekiti East and Gbonyin Local Government Areas. Oyebanji said, “Within one year, we got it done, but Adeyeye came back to thank me and pointed out that some communities still lacked proper transformers.” The governor shared that despite efforts, the project had not been completed before Adeyeye’s passing due to resource constraints. However, in his honor, Oyebanji directed that the list of affected communities be obtained and that the N300 million transformer project be funded.
Describing Adeyeye as a “distinguished legal luminary,” Oyebanji praised his invaluable contributions to both the judiciary and the development of the state.
During a valedictory court session earlier at the State Judiciary Headquarters in Ado Ekiti, Acting Chief Judge Justice Lekan Ogunmoye praised Adeyeye as a “jurist par excellence” and a visionary leader dedicated to justice delivery and judicial efficiency. Ogunmoye expressed that Adeyeye’s untimely death was a great loss to his family, the legal profession, the state, and the nation.
The Acting CJ highlighted Adeyeye’s significant accomplishments, including the smooth appointment of four judges, the establishment of the Ekiti State Customary Court of Appeal, and the digitization of the judiciary registry, among other achievements.
Ekiti State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Dayo Apata, also paid tribute to the late CJ, calling him an embodiment of dedication, resilience, and integrity. Apata noted that Justice Adeyeye’s commitment to the rule of law and human rights made him a respected figure in Ekiti’s judiciary.
