Rivers Group Urges Ugochinyere To Stop ‘Insulting’ Wike, Judiciary
The Rivers Restoration Movement (RRM), a political pressure group, has called on Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives, to stop insulting the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the Nigerian Judiciary over the political crisis in Rivers State.
The group also condemned Ugochinyere’s alleged attacks on Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Nigerian Police. Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato North/Ideato South federal constituency in Imo State, has been criticized for what RRM described as reckless behavior that targets leaders and institutions in Rivers State.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt by RRM’s director-general, Hon. Johnson Georgewill, and secretary, Mrs. Sarima Akpata, the group questioned why a lawmaker who does not reside in Rivers State or have voting rights there should be hired with Rivers resources to insult the state’s leaders and institutions.
The statement read, “RRM and well-meaning Rivers people are forced to wonder why a man who is not an indigene of Rivers State, voted by Imo State residents, would be hired with Rivers resources to insult our leaders and government institutions.”
The group condemned what it called the “blackmailing and insults” directed at Wike, the Senate President, the Judiciary, and the Nigerian Police by Ugochinyere. RRM called for decisive action from the President to address such individuals, warning that their reckless statements could harm Nigeria’s democracy.
RRM also urged the people of Rivers State to protect their interests from “paid intruders” like Ugochinyere, whom they accused of exploiting the state for personal gain while many Rivers residents suffer in poverty.
Finally, the group appealed to Wike to continue ignoring Ugochinyere, highlighting that he played no role in the election of Governor Sim in 2023, which was the result of Wike’s tireless political efforts.
