Firm Launches App To Revolutionize Maritime Law Practice

The legal tech division of Foundation Chambers (FC) has launched Caveat Guard, a web-based application aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accessibility in Nigeria’s maritime legal sector. The app enables users to submit instructions, track real-time filing statuses, and receive instant notifications upon completion of filings.

According to Mojisola Jaiye-Gbenle, a partner at FC, Caveat Guard addresses the growing need for technology integration in legal practice. She explained, “The firm envisions that the application will revolutionise the filing of caveats by digitising the process and centralising the Caveat Register nationwide. Registered users will be able to submit applications electronically, search Caveat Registers, and receive instant search results from any Federal High Court division.”

Jaiye-Gbenle made these remarks during FC’s 25th anniversary and the 75th birthday celebration of its founder, Mr. Luke Chidi Ilogu (SAN), in Lagos.

Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Nnamdi Louis Mbanefo (SAN), praised Mr. Ilogu’s contributions to maritime law, recalling their collaboration in the Maritime Lawyers Association. “Foundation Chambers is one of the best maritime law firms in the country,” Mbanefo said.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, representing the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, delivered a goodwill message, lauding Mr. Ilogu for his integrity, hard work, and dedication to the legal profession.

At the event, three winners of the firm’s annual essay competition for university students were announced. Partner Adedamola Kikiowo introduced the winners:

  • Vincent Maduka (Winner)
  • Toluwani Olusola (First Runner-Up)
  • Enoch Akinlabi (Second Runner-Up)

Kikiowo emphasised the firm’s commitment to advancing legal education, noting that essays are reviewed by both internal and external evaluators to ensure fairness and transparency.

Additionally, Ms. Totulope Adebayo was inducted as a new partner at the firm.

Book Launch: “Beyond the Horizon in Maritime and Arbitration Practice”
The event also featured the public unveiling of a new book, Beyond the Horizon in Maritime and Arbitration Practice, published by the firm and featuring contributions from various experts.

Prof. Wale Olawoyin (SAN), who reviewed the book, described it as an invaluable resource for legal practitioners, students, and the public. Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour (retd) officially unveiled the book, commending its contributors and predicting its lasting relevance in maritime and arbitration law.
