Benue State University Law Class Of 2007 Condemns Brutal Assassination Of Colleague, Mark Ofikwu
The Class of 2007 of the Faculty of Law, Benue State University, has expressed profound shock and deep sorrow over the gruesome assassination of their colleague, Barrister Mark Owoicho Ofikwu, who was murdered on November 20, 2024, at the gate of his residence in Otukpo, Benue State.
In a statement signed by Barrister Gwaza Michael Madaki on behalf of the class, the group condemned the act as “heinous and reprehensible,” describing Barrister Ofikwu as a man of integrity and an unwavering advocate for justice.
“This tragic incident robs his family, friends, and the legal profession of a brilliant mind and is an affront to the principles of justice and human dignity which he steadfastly represented,” the statement read.
The group decried the worsening insecurity in the nation, highlighting that even those who dedicate their lives to upholding justice are increasingly vulnerable to violent crimes. “The cold-blooded killing of our colleague underscores the alarming state of insecurity in our country,” the statement added.
They called on security agencies to act swiftly and decisively in apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrators of this heinous crime. “This case must be treated with the urgency and thoroughness it deserves. Justice must not only be served but also seen to be served,” they emphasized.
The Class of 2007 extended their heartfelt condolences to Barrister Ofikwu’s family, pledging their unwavering support during this trying time. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and colleagues of Barrister Ofikwu. We stand in solidarity with them and will continue to honor his legacy,” the statement concluded.
