Kogi Judiciary To Begin Payment Of New Minimum Wage In November — Chief Judge
The Chief Judge of Kogi State, Hon. Justice Josiah Majebi, has announced that the state’s judiciary will begin the payment of the new minimum wage of N72,500 to its workers starting in November.
Justice Majebi made the announcement during a meeting with the management of various judicial bodies, including the Judicial Service Commission, the High Court of Justice, the Sharia Court of Appeal, the Customary Court of Appeal, and the leadership of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) in the state.
He explained that while the judiciary initially missed out on the wage when the state implemented it last month, extensive discussions between court heads and government officials have now finalized the necessary technical requirements for its rollout. The wage increase will be implemented in the judiciary starting in October.
The Chief Judge expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Ododo and other state agencies for their collaboration in ensuring the successful implementation of the new salary structure. He reassured workers that the welfare of judicial staff is a priority and emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing their concerns and needs promptly.
Justice Majebi also urged judiciary workers to show loyalty and dedication in their roles and contribute to the development of the state. He encouraged them to engage in peaceful and civilized dialogue when raising concerns, emphasizing the importance of basing opinions and statements on verified facts rather than rumors.
The Chief Judge also appreciated the state government’s continued efforts to improve the judiciary, citing the provision of official vehicles for judges and the ongoing renovation of courts across the state.
In response to the announcement, JUSUN’s state leadership, led by Comrade Emmanuel Waniko, issued a bulletin celebrating the approval of the minimum wage for judiciary staff. The Union also thanked the Chief Judge and other court heads for their efforts in ensuring the successful implementation of the wage increase.
The move marks a significant step in improving the welfare of Kogi State’s judiciary workers and enhancing the overall effectiveness of the state’s judicial system.
