Nigeria’s Ezinwa Okoroafor Elected International President Of The Federation Of Women Lawyers
In a major milestone for Nigerian legal advocacy, Mrs. Ezinwa Okoroafor has been elected International President of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA). Her election was a key highlight of the 38th International Triennial Convention of FIDA, held on Friday, November 8, at the Dann Carlton Hotel in Cali, Colombia.
Barrister Okoroafor’s local FIDA branch in Nigeria praised her election, describing it as “well-deserved” and expressing optimism about her leadership. In a statement, FIDA Abuja Chairperson Chibuzo Maureen Nwosu congratulated Okoroafor, stating, “Your election is a testament to your unwavering dedication, proven leadership, and commitment to FIDA, its members, and its mandate. Mrs. Ezinwa Nwanyieze Okoroafor has a notable history of legal activism and dedication to advancing women’s rights. She previously served as FIDA’s International Secretary in 2017, Regional Vice President for Africa, and National President of the Nigeria Branch. Her involvement with FIDA extends back to her election as FIDA International Director in 2012, marking a long-standing commitment to the organisation’s mission.
Beyond her work with FIDA, Okoroafor has been influential within other Nigerian legal bodies. She served as a Council Member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Women Forum, National Chairperson of the Society of Women in Taxation of Nigeria, and was a delegate to Nigeria’s 2014 National Conference.
