Ekiti State Chief Judge, Justice John Adeyeye, Passes Away At 64

Justice John Adeyeye, who took office as the Chief Judge of Ekiti State on October 11, 2021, has passed away at the age of 64. His death occurred on Monday.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji expressed deep sorrow over Justice Adeyeye’s passing in a statement issued on Tuesday, describing it as “heartrending and a colossal loss for the state.” The governor’s statement, released by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, included a message of sympathy for the judge’s family:

“This is indeed a great loss to our dear state. On behalf of the Government and people of Ekiti State, I commiserate with the family of the late Hon Justice Adeyeye and pray that the good Lord will console and comfort them, and grant the dear departed eternal rest.”

Governor Oyebanji further noted that Justice Adeyeye’s death marked a significant loss for the judiciary in Ekiti State and across Nigeria, describing him as “a great pillar and an asset whose worth is invaluable.” He praised the late judge’s dedication to fairness, highlighting his “firm and forthright” approach to upholding the principles of equity and justice.

Governor Oyebanji also recognized Justice Adeyeye’s commitment to strengthening an independent and vibrant judiciary that actively contributed to governance and citizens’ rights protection. He acknowledged the late judge’s efforts to enhance welfare for judicial officers and staff, aimed at improving service delivery within Ekiti State’s justice sector.

The governor extended his condolences to Justice Adeyeye’s family, the people of Araromi Ugbesi in Ekiti East Local Government Area, and members of the Bar and Bench, urging them to take comfort in the judge’s impactful contributions to the judiciary and the state’s development.
