President Tinubu Orders Immediate Release Of Minors Arrested In #EndBadGovernance Protests
In response to widespread public outcry over the arrest and arraignment of minors involved in the #EndBadGovernance protests across Nigeria in August, President Bola Tinubu has ordered their immediate release.
The directive was announced on Monday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, after the President swore in seven new ministers approved by the Senate. Idris emphasized that the release order will proceed “without prejudice to whatever legal processes are ongoing.”
President Tinubu also instructed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to prioritize the minors’ welfare and assist with their smooth reintegration with families or guardians throughout the country. Additionally, he directed that a committee, led by the humanitarian affairs ministry, be formed to thoroughly examine the circumstances of their arrest, detention, treatment, and eventual release.
