Ebonyi State Governor Nwifuru Signs 18 Executive Bills And Strengthens Judiciary With New Recruits
Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has announced the signing of 18 executive bills into law within his first year in office. Speaking at the 2024/2025 legal week of the Ebonyi State Judiciary, themed “Law as an Instrument for Social Engineering,” Nwifuru also disclosed the recruitment of 150 judicial staff to address the manpower needs of the state’s judiciary.
In his address at the High Court premises, Governor Nwifuru emphasized the role of the judiciary as a lasting pillar of fairness and justice, urging members of the legal profession to remain dedicated to their duties. “Law is a transformative force for social progress, equity, and justice,” he said, commending the theme and encouraging legal professionals to advocate for reforms that support a just society.
Highlighting his administration’s legislative accomplishments, Governor Nwifuru noted that several executive bills were prepared, passed, and signed into law, including the Ebonyi State Correctional Services Law, 2024, and the Chief Registrars (Harmonization with Permanent Secretaries) Law, 2024. His administration also established the Ebonyi State Multi-Door Courthouse, Citizens’ Mediation Centre, Sexual Assault Referral Centre, and the Office of Public Defender under the Ministry of Justice.
Governor Nwifuru further expressed commitment to improving the welfare of judicial officers, saying, “Our government is dedicated to enhancing the conditions of service for judicial officers and staff, and we will continue to support the judiciary within our resource limits.”
He concluded by highlighting the importance of interdependence between government branches, stressing the need for collaboration that respects judicial independence. “I assure you of my continuous support as you fulfill your responsibilities to our state and its citizens,” he affirmed.
