NBA Holds Valedictory Session To Honour Senior Advocate Yunus Ustaz Usman
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Kaduna chapter held a valedictory session to honor the late Yunus Ustaz Usman, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and life bencher, who passed away on September 11, 2024, at the age of 67.
The three-hour session, held at the High Court Complex, saw attendance from senior members of the bench, the Bar, and other dignitaries, who offered tributes to Ustaz’s life and career. The Chief Judge of Kaduna State, Hon. Justice Muhammad Tukur Aliyu, opened the session, describing Ustaz as a man of integrity who was always ready to help those in need, including providing pro bono legal services.
Kaduna State Attorney General Sule Shu’aibu, who chaired the session, highlighted Ustaz’s contributions to justice, governance, and the rule of law, noting that his legacy would inspire future generations. NBA President Josiah Afam Osigwe called Ustaz a “great and impactful” figure, encouraging his family and the Kaduna Bar to draw strength from his legacy.
Godwin Ochai, NBA Chairman for Kaduna, praised Ustaz as a champion of human rights and a fearless advocate for justice, saying, “His courageous voice was a powerful force for change.”
Senior Advocate of Nigeria Jibrin Samuel Okutekpa, in his remarks, urged the judiciary to assert its independence and resist executive influence, echoing Ustaz’s commitment to justice and integrity in the legal profession.
