President Tinubu Directs Ministers, Agency Heads To Limit Convoys, Security Detail

President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive limiting the number of vehicles in the official convoys of Federal Government Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies to a maximum of three. The restriction, aimed at reducing government expenses, was announced today, October 24, in a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

Onanuga explained that no additional vehicles would be provided for their movements, signaling a major cost-cutting measure under President Tinubu’s administration.

“The President has restricted ministers and heads of agencies to three vehicles in their convoys. This move follows earlier decisions in January when President Tinubu reduced his own entourage on foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials and reduced his local entourage to 25,” Onanuga stated.

The Vice President’s entourage has also been downsized, with the President limiting the Vice President’s foreign trip delegation to five officials, and local trips to 15.

Additionally, President Tinubu has ordered that no more than five security personnel be assigned to ministers and heads of agencies, with the team consisting of four police officers and one officer from the Department of State Services (DSS). No extra security personnel will be allocated beyond these numbers.

The President has also instructed the National Security Adviser to collaborate with military, paramilitary, and security agencies to assess appropriate reductions in their vehicle and security personnel deployment.

All affected officials are expected to implement these measures immediately, reflecting the administration’s commitment to controlling government expenditure.
