Ministers On Edge As Cabinet Reshuffle Looms

Several ministers in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet are reportedly anxious over an impending reshuffle, as speculation grows about their performance in advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The unease follows comments by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, hinting at an upcoming review aimed at assessing the ministers’ effectiveness.

Ministers who have underperformed or failed to make significant contributions to the administration’s goals may face removal, Onanuga suggested.

Criticism has been mounting against some ministers, with detractors accusing the administration of prioritizing political patronage over merit in key appointments. This has fueled frustration, particularly among those who expected Tinubu’s cabinet to be dominated by technocrats.

According to sources cited by Vanguard, before President Tinubu embarked on his two-week trip to the United Kingdom, a comprehensive review of ministerial performance was completed by Mrs. Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser on Policy Coordination and head of the Central Delivery Coordination Unit.

Mrs. Usman, known for her strictness and thoroughness from her time as Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, has reportedly resisted lobbying efforts by nervous ministers. “She is not someone who can be easily manipulated,” a source revealed.

The reshuffle is expected to bring in new faces who can accelerate the implementation of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring the administration’s goals are fully realized.
