INEC Sets November 2025 For Anambra Governorship Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Anambra governorship election for November 8, 2025. INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu announced this during a consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja on Thursday.
Yakubu emphasized that, according to electoral law, the election notice must be published no later than 360 days before the polls. He also noted that party primaries for the election are to take place between March 20 and April 10, 2025.
“The last governorship election in Anambra was held on November 6, 2021,” Yakubu said. “With the tenure nearing its end, the commission has set Saturday, November 8, 2025, as the date for the next election.”
Key dates for the election include the formal notice, to be published on November 13, 2024, and the opening of the candidate nomination portal from April 18 to May 12, 2025. Campaigns by political parties will run from June 11 to November 6, 2025, with voting to take place in all 5,720 polling units across the state.
Yakubu also mentioned that additional details regarding voter registration, transfers, and the replacement of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be provided in the coming weeks.
