Ahmadu Bello University Class Of 2006 Defends B.Y. Gambo, Esq. Dismisses Allegations Of Fake Lawyer In Kano
Former law students from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, class of 2006, have come forward to debunk the recent allegations against their coursemate, Barrister B.Y. Gambo, who was accused of being a “fake lawyer” by online sources.
In a statement signed by their former class chairman, Lawrence Ijimdiya Esq., the alumni expressed shock over the publication, which claimed that Gambo had been practicing law fraudulently for nearly two decades. The statement strongly refuted these claims, confirming that Gambo, who they fondly called “Dodo Bak,” was indeed a legitimate member of their class and was duly called to the Nigerian Bar in 2007.
The allegations, originally published by faceless blogs and supported by a certain Mr. Mariri, on behalf of “concerned Kano people,” suggested that Gambo had used his brother’s O-level certificate to gain admission to study law at ABU Zaria. However, the classmates of B.Y. Gambo dismissed this as baseless, emphasizing that Gambo’s academic and professional records are impeccable.
Further investigation by independent journalists revealed that the source of the defamatory publication lacked credibility. The online platforms in question failed to provide standard information such as the names, contact details, and addresses of the publishers or editors, raising doubts about their authenticity.
In their statement, Gambo’s classmates vowed to take legal action against those responsible for spreading the false claims. They challenged the anonymous individuals behind the smear campaign to formally present their case to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Kano branch for proper investigation, if they have any genuine concerns.
Additionally, the group revealed that a petition has already been prepared and will be submitted to the authorities, including the police, with a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) based in Kano handling the legal proceedings.
This development comes after B.Y. Gambo himself issued a response, firmly denying the allegations and maintaining his long-standing integrity as a legal practitioner in Kano. Gambo, who has practiced law for over 18 years, emphasized that there is no formal complaint against him with the NBA Kano branch and described the claims as a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation.
The legal fraternity in Kano continues to follow the case closely, as Gambo’s classmates and legal experts rally in support of his professionalism and character.
