“Why Didn’t You Pay Your Bride Price?” – Nigerian Man Claps Back At Female Lawyer Advocating For Shared Household Chores
A heated exchange erupted on the Nigerian social media space, after a female lawyer, Stella suggested that married couples should share household chores to strengthen their relationship, and Aston Young, a Nigerian man, took to the comments to criticise Stella, questioning her stance on marriage equality.

In her original post on Facebook, the lawyer encouraged couples to prioritise their relationship and divide household responsibilities equally.

“Do whatever it takes to keep your marriage strong. If your wife cannot cook tonight, then you do it willingly. Enjoy the manifestation of your deep love for each other. As a married couple, you are on the same team. Therefore, make decisions and divide household responsibilities in a way that honours both of you,” she wrote.

However, Young didn’t agree with Stella’s perspective, implying that her view of equality clashed with traditional marriage practices. “I wonder the situation you’re subjecting your husband to, just because you’re in the legal field and everything seems equal with your man. Why didn’t you pay your bride price yourself, then look for a man to share house chores with?” he responded.

He further criticised modern feminist ideals, adding, “I’m sorry for this confused generation seeking equality without sense. Someday you feminists will still seek to be equal with God, and that will lead you to doom. You’re using your husband to practice law.”

The post highlighted the ongoing debate around gender roles, equality, and cultural traditions in modern marriages and has since sparked a debate on marriage dynamics and equality, with comments flooding in from various sides of the argument.
