NLC President Joe Ajaero Leads Delegation On Courtesy Visit To NBA Headquarters
In a move aimed at strengthening ties between two major national institutions, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, led a delegation on Thursday to the headquarters of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). The NLC delegation was received by the newly elected NBA President, MaziAfam Osigwe, SAN, and his team.
During the meeting, both organizations exchanged views on promoting the rule of law and protecting the fundamental rights of Nigerian citizens. Central to their discussions was the need for collaboration between the labour and legal sectors to ensure that democracy is upheld, and governance is rooted in justice, fairness, and accountability.
Ajaero reaffirmed the NLC’s commitment to working alongside the NBA to champion the rights of workers and citizens across the country. He stressed the importance of a robust legal system that safeguards citizens from abuse, upholds democratic values, and ensures the freedom of association.
“The NLC commends the NBA’s position on protests and the protection of fundamental rights. We must work together to address the declining economic situation. Nigerians are hungry, and the time may come when we can no longer remain silent. Together, we can hold the government accountable,” Ajaero said, as he called for organized action to address the nation’s economic challenges.
In response, NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, reiterated the association’s commitment to being the “voice of the voiceless.” He emphasized the NBA’s determination to defend the integrity of Nigeria’s legal system and support meaningful change in the country’s political and socio-economic landscape.
The meeting marked a significant step towards increased collaboration between the NLC and the NBA, with both organizations pledging to work together in protecting the rights of Nigerians and promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
