Kebbi Assembly Passes Transport Authority Bill Into Law

The Kebbi State House of Assembly has passed the Transport Authority Bill 2024 into law, aimed at enhancing the state’s transportation system. The bill was approved during Tuesday’s plenary session.

Chairman of the Committee on Transport and Renewable Energy, Hon. Atiku Bello Kurya, presented the report before its adoption and final passage. Speaking to reporters, Hon. Kurya explained that Governor Nasir Idris introduced the bill to address transportation challenges faced by residents and facilitate the movement of goods.

“The new transport authority will ease the burden of transportation costs, which has been a significant expense for workers,” Kurya noted. He added that the initiative would particularly benefit those commuting between Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, and surrounding towns.

The transport routes under the bill will cover areas within Kebbi State, other Nigerian cities, and neighboring countries, including Niger and Benin Republic.

During the same session, presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, the 2024 Supplementary Appropriation Bill also passed its second reading.
