JASAN Foundation Set To Launch N1 Billion Endowment Fund At Inaugural “The Legacy Dialogue 2024”
The Johnny Agim, SAN (JASAN) Foundation is gearing up to host its inaugural “The Legacy Dialogue” on Friday, September 13, 2024, in Abuja. Themed “The Future of Law & Professional Identity Formation: The Role of Strategic Sponsorship & Mentorship,” the event will focus on mentorship, sponsorship, and their essential roles in shaping the next generation of legal professionals.
The dialogue will unfold in two segments. The first part includes the official launch of the JASAN Foundation, the unveiling of its institutional logo, and the establishment of the N1 billion endowment fund aimed at fostering scholarships and sponsorships for law students and young lawyers.
The Chief Guest of Honour for the event is His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the Executive Governor of Cross River State while the Keynote Address will be delivered by Prof. Ernest Ojukwu SAN, a distinguished professor of law and founding partner of Ojukwu Faotu & Yusuf, on the topic, “The Future of Law & Professional Identity Formation: The Role of Strategic Sponsorship & Mentorship.” Prof. Ojukwu’s contributions to legal education, especially in clinical legal education, have been widely recognized.
The event will also feature a panel discussion with legal luminaries representing various sectors of the profession. The Moderator for the dialogue will be Oyetola Muyiwa Atoyebi SAN, the youngest lawyer to attain the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria at age 34 and the managing partner of OMAPLEX Law Firm, renowned for its expertise in technology-driven legal solutions.
The panelists include:
– Justice Mabel Taiye Segun-Bello, Judge of the Federal High Court, representing the judiciary’s perspective on the dialogue’s theme. Justice Segun-Bello brings years of judicial experience, having previously served as a magistrate and deputy chief registrar.
– Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma SAN, the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, will represent the academic perspective, focusing on legal education. Prof. Chiroma has played a key role in the development of legal education in Nigeria.
–Ayotunde Foluso Ogunleye SAN, Founder and Principal Partner at Legal Tuxedo & Associates, will provide insights from the legal practice. With a wealth of experience in various areas of law, including dispute resolution and intellectual property, Ogunleye has mentored numerous young lawyers.
In addition to the dialogue, the event will mark the launch of the JASAN Foundation’s N1 billion endowment fund, with an initial target of raising N250 million to fund scholarships for law students. The #Legacy500 Competition, part of this initiative, will provide scholarships to ten final-year law students from federal and state universities across Nigeria. These students will receive full tuition coverage for the Nigerian Law School and enter the elite mentorship program, #Legacy500, aimed at guiding them through the early stages of their legal careers.
The Legacy Dialogue is set to be an annual event, with this first edition paving the way for future discussions on the transformation of the legal profession, highlighting how strategic sponsorship and mentorship can reshape professional identity and advance the careers of young lawyers.
