NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, Directs Branches To Monitor #EndBadGovernance Trials, Initiates Pro Bono Legal Support

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has issued a directive for NBA branches across the country to actively monitor the ongoing trials of #EndBadGovernance protesters. In a move to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law, the NBA has also launched a Pro Bono legal support initiative aimed at assisting protesters who lack legal representation.

Osigwe has specifically tasked the NBA Citizens’ Liberties Committee (NBA-CLC) to collaborate closely with the Chairmen and Human Rights Committees of NBA branches in regions where these trials are taking place. This coordination is intended to prevent any miscarriage of justice and to ensure that no defendant is left without adequate legal support.

The NBA legal teams have been actively present in courtrooms, vigilantly observing the proceedings to guarantee that the trials are conducted in strict adherence to due process. The association remains committed to safeguarding the legal rights of all defendants and ensuring that the principles of justice and human rights are upheld throughout these legal processes.

Bridget Ijeoma Edokwe, Esq., the National Publicity Secretary of the NBA, confirmed the association’s ongoing efforts in a statement released on September 2, 2024.
