Women Journalists Urge New Chief Justice Of Nigeria To Uphold Rule Of Law And Justice
Women journalists across Nigeria have called on the newly appointed Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, to leverage her position to advance the rule of law, equality, and justice for all citizens, regardless of their social status.
The journalists, under the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), emphasized that without the promotion of these principles, the nation may continue to struggle with national security and peace.
NAWOJ expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the swift inauguration of Justice Kekere-Ekun as the acting CJN. In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, NAWOJ’s National Chairperson, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim, highlighted the President’s consistent efforts to ensure gender inclusion in key government appointments since taking office. The statement was released by the association’s National Secretary, Wasilah Ladan.
Hajiya Ibrahim urged women appointed to leadership positions to serve with commitment, dedication, integrity, and diligence, setting a positive example for future generations.
“All eyes are on women in leadership; this is an opportunity to disprove the stereotype of underperformance in governance and demonstrate that women are fully capable of achieving results in any role they undertake,” she stated.
She also advised women to avoid any actions that could tarnish the image of women in leadership or undermine confidence in their capabilities.
Mrs. Ibrahim concluded by encouraging women leaders to approach their roles with a sense of humor and proactive leadership, affirming, “We are women and we are proud to be one.”
