NJC Recommends Kekere-Ekun To Tinubu As Next Chief Justice Of Nigeria, Along With Other Judicial Appointments
The National Judicial Council (NJC), chaired by the outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has officially recommended Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as the next Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). This recommendation comes as Justice Ariwoola prepares to retire from his position on August 22, 2024.
The NJC’s recommendation was disclosed in a statement published on the council’s website on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
Other Judicial Recommendations
In addition to recommending Justice Kekere-Ekun as the next CJN, the NJC has also put forward the names of twenty-seven (27) candidates for appointment as Judges of various State Courts and one candidate for appointment as Kadi of the Sharia Court of the FCT, Abuja. These recommendations have been submitted to the respective State Governors and the President for approval.
