Immigration Summons Woman Over Husband’s Passport Tearing Incident at Lagos Airport
A video showing a Nigerian woman, identified as Mrs. Favour Igiebor, tearing her husband’s international passport at an airport has gone viral on social media.
The incident occurred upon the couple’s arrival at a Nigerian airport, with the husband remaining calm as he later collected the torn pieces of the passport from the floor. The exact reason for the woman’s actions has not been made public although she has since released a video where she said “she has been bearing a lot”.
Following the viral video, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) released an official statement on August 11, 2024, confirming that the incident took place at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. The NIS has initiated a formal investigation into the matter and Mrs. Igiebor has been identified and summoned for questioning.
The NIS highlighted that if the allegations are proven, the woman’s actions would constitute a violation of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended). The penalties for such an offense are outlined in Section 10(h) of the same Act. The NIS reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the Immigration Act, ensuring national security, and preserving the integrity of Nigeria’s legal documents.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the situation develops.
