Ndume Refuses New Office After Senate Whip Dismissal

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has declined a new office allocated to him by the Senate Services Committee following his removal as Senate Whip.

Ndume, as per parliamentary customs, is required to move offices due to his recent dismissal from the Whip position. He was instructed to vacate his current office for the new Whip, Senator Tahiir Mongonu, and relocate to the third floor.

In response to this reassignment, Ndume sent a letter on Tuesday to Senator Sunday Karimi, Chairman of the Senate Services Committee, expressing his dissatisfaction. The letter, signed by his Chief Confidential Secretary, Shuaibu Gawu, stated that the new office allocation did not align with Ndume’s seniority and status in the Senate.

“I am directed to inform you that, Distinguished Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, has rejected the allocation of office number 3.10 by the Committee,” the letter read. “This is because offices are traditionally allocated on a seniority basis.”

The letter further emphasized, “Senator Ndume is the most senior senator after Senator Ahmad Lawan and will only occupy an office on the fourth floor.”

Previously, a letter from the All Progressive Party, co-signed by Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and Secretary Ajibola Basiru, had formally removed Ndume from his position as Senate Chief Whip.
