Chief Justice Of Nigeria, Ariwoola To Retire On August 22
Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the incumbent Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), will officially step down from his position as head of Nigeria’s judiciary on Thursday, August 22, 2024.
Justice Ariwoola has led the judiciary for the past three years, following the sudden resignation of his predecessor, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, due to ill health.
A traditional Valedictory Court Session for the retiring Chief Justice will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024. The event will take place at the Supreme Court Complex and is expected to be attended by prominent figures.
Dr. Festus Akande, the Director of Information and Press for the Court, announced on Monday in Abuja that the valedictory ceremony is scheduled to mark the end of an era. Akande also noted that the Apex Court’s 2023/2024 legal year concluded on Friday, July 19, 2024, with the Court proceeding on vacation from Monday, July 22, 2024.
The Court will resume for the first term of the 2024/2025 legal year on Monday, September 23, 2024. The ceremony to usher in the new legal year is slated for Monday, September 30, 2024.
