Fake Lawyer Remanded At Umuahia Correctional Centre
In a recent development, a suspected fake lawyer identified as Kenneth Nwuke has been ordered to be remanded at the Umuahia Correctional Centre by a Magistrates’ Court in Umuahia, Abia State.
Nwuke was arrested by the police following a tip-off while posing as a lawyer representing a client in a murder case at the Zone 9 Police Headquarters in Umuahia. The suspect claimed he was given the power of attorney by the father of the deceased to represent him in the ongoing murder investigation.
A source revealed that the alleged power of attorney bore the name of a well-known law firm in Aba. Members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Aba branch, present at the police zonal command, alerted the police about Nwuke’s suspicious activities as he attempted to negotiate with parties involved in the murder case.
Nwuke was subsequently arrested and arraigned at Magistrates’ Court 4, under charge number U/449C/2024, Commissioner of Police vs. Kenneth Nwuke. Magistrate Jane Mba granted the police’s application for a remand order and adjourned the case to August 30 for a report of compliance.
Charles Onuchukwu, Chairman of the NBA Aba branch, praised the police for their swift action in arresting the fake lawyer. “Some of our members were at the zonal police command when the man came, posing as a lawyer, to represent a client in a murder case. We alerted the police that he was an impostor. He was arrested,” Onuchukwu stated.
The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the ongoing efforts to maintain integrity within the legal profession.
