Senate Removes Ali Ndume As Chief Whip
The Senate has ousted Senator Mohamed Ali Ndume (Borno South) from his position as Chief Whip.
Ndume’s removal was approved by members of the APC Senate Caucus during today’s plenary session on July 17, following a voice vote led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Senator Tahir Monguno has been appointed as his replacement.
The national leadership of the ruling party, APC, had previously requested Ndume to resign from the party and join any opposition party of his choice. This request was conveyed in a letter signed by the party’s national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and Secretary, Barrister Ajibola Bashiru.
Ndume’s criticisms of the Tinubu-led government had provoked backlash from the pro-Tinubu camp. Senator Sunday Karimi (Kogi West) and the APC condemned his statements as derogatory.
In recent interviews, Ndume alleged that President Tinubu is inaccessible and claimed that some ministers in the Tinubu administration do not have access to the President.
