Kogi Chief Judge Urges Law Students To Uphold Integrity

The Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Josiah Majebi, has urged Law School students to maintain a high degree of integrity to excel in the legal profession. Justice Majebi made this call on Monday during a farewell session for the students at the judiciary headquarters in Lokoja, marking the completion of their five-week compulsory court attachment programme.

Justice Majebi, accompanied by other judges who supervised the students, emphasized the importance of professional ethics, proper dressing, and societal decorum. He noted that society respects and honors professionals who adhere to the principles of their profession, particularly lawyers.

In his address, Justice Abdul Awulu praised the students for their enthusiasm and willingness to learn the intricacies of legal proceedings. Hon. Justice Angelina Salihu highlighted the ethical challenges lawyers face daily, emphasizing the significance of factual accuracy and ethical behavior in court. “I commend you students for your approach to legal arguments and case management,” she said.

Justice Estu Umar underscored the role of character in the legal profession, stressing that integrity and diligence are the cornerstones of a successful legal career.

Chief Registrar of the Court, Jubril Ibrahim, remarked that the attachment programme had effectively prepared the students for the demands of legal practice. He appreciated the judges for sharing their wealth of experience and knowledge, which the students promised to apply in practice after graduating from Law School.

Nigerian Law School students from various campuses, including Lagos, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Yola, converged in Lokoja to conclude their five-week externship programme. The court attachment programme is a pivotal component of their legal education, providing hands-on experience in the judiciary before they proceed to law chambers for further attachment.
