Female Suicide Bomber Backing Baby Hits Borno Community: 6 Killed, 15 Injured
In a tragic incident in Gwoza, Borno, a female suicide bomber, carrying a baby, detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at a busy motor park, killing six people and injuring 15 others.
The attack took place at Marrarraban Gwoza motor park, causing widespread devastation. Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Lawal, confirmed the attack and disclosed that it was perpetrated by a female suicide bomber.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bomber was accompanied by a baby, a detail that added to the shock of the incident. The explosion occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m., targeting a wedding ceremony, turning a day of joy into one of mourning.
Lawal stated that the Divisional Police Officer in Gwoza informed him about the casualties, with six people confirmed dead and 15 others transported to the hospital for treatment.
An eyewitness named Buba described the heartbreaking scene, noting that the explosion shattered the celebration of the wedding, leaving families and loved ones grieving. Another witness, Muhammed Kasim, recounted the moment of the blast, saying, “We heard a very loud sound of explosives, accompanied by dust; then we saw bodies on the ground.”
Following the attack, security agencies were deployed to secure the area and ensure the safety of the community. The injured were evacuated to nearby hospitals for medical attention. The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the devastating impact on the local population.
