Borno State High Court Judge Abducted Along with Family and Staff
Borno, Nigeria – On Monday, Justice Haruna Mshelia of the Borno State High Court was abducted at Jiba town, along the Biu-Maiduguri road. The judge, along with his wife, driver, and orderly, was taken hostage while traveling in the same vehicle.
The incident reportedly occurred when a group of insurgents stopped their vehicle and forced them into the Sambisa Forest. The abduction was confirmed by the state police command through its spokesman, Nahum Daso.
“We received a report today from one Sani Audu, through the Divisional Officer of Biu, that on June 24, 2024, at about 9 am, the Honourable Justice, his wife, orderly, and driver were kidnapped along Biu-Maiduguri Road, specifically at Jiba town,” Daso stated.
The police have launched an investigation to track the terrorists and ensure the safe release of Justice Mshelia and the other hostages. While no contact has been made with the abductors, the police have implemented security measures to facilitate the rescue operation.
“The police command, through the Borno State Police Commissioner, has formed a special investigation team that includes the State Intelligence Department and other tactical squads. They are collaborating with other security forces and the DSS to gather forensic evidence to track and retrieve the victims,” Daso added.
