FHC Grants Cubana Chief Priest N10m Bail Over Naira Abuse Charges

Nightlife promoter and businessman, Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, has been granted a N10 million bail by the Federal High Court in Lagos State. The court, presided over by Justice Kehinde Ogundare, set the bail conditions at N10 million with two sureties in like sum.

Cubana Chief Priest, who was arraigned on Wednesday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on three counts of Naira abuse, pleaded not guilty to the charges. As part of the bail conditions, he is required to surrender his travel passport to the court’s custody and must perfect the bail conditions within seven days.

The charges, filed by EFCC prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo and seven other lawyers representing the commission’s chairman, accuse Cubana Chief Priest of tampering with N500 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria during social events in February 2024 and 2020, and January 2024.

The arraignment and subsequent bail granting comes shortly after the sentencing of controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, to six months imprisonment without an option for a fine.
