Federal Government Declares Public Holidays for Eid-el-Fitr Celebrations

The Federal Government has announced that Tuesday, April 9th, and Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, will be observed as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

This declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. The announcement came through a statement released on Sunday and signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Ndayako.

In his message, Minister Tunji-Ojo extended congratulations to all Muslim faithful for the successful conclusion of the fasting period during the holy month of Ramadan. He emphasized the significance of practising virtues such as kindness, love, tolerance, peace, good neighbourliness, and compassion, following the example set by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).

Furthermore, Tunji-Ojo called upon Nigerians to embrace unity as a means to foster peace and unity within the nation. He expressed his wishes for a joyous Eid-el-Fitr celebration for all Muslim faithful and offered prayers for the peace, blessings, and favor of Allah to be bestowed upon every citizen of Nigeria.

With the declaration of these public holidays, Muslims across the country will have the opportunity to observe and celebrate Eid-el-Fitr with their families and communities, marking the end of the month-long Ramadan fasting period.
