Eight Suspects Apprehended In Connection With Murder Of Six Police Officers In Delta State
In a significant breakthrough, authorities have arrested eight suspects linked to the gruesome murder of six policemen in the Ohoro Forest of Ughelli North Local Government Area in Delta State.
The arrest was announced in a statement issued by Force spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Saturday. According to Adejobi, the suspects are currently in custody and are cooperating with the ongoing investigation into the tragic incident.
The apprehension of the suspects comes after rigorous investigative efforts, with five suspects initially detained shortly after the incident, followed by the capture of an additional three suspects at different locations.
“The arrested suspects are currently in custody and are assisting with the ongoing investigation. While the Nigeria Police Force is committed to ensuring that all those responsible for this reprehensible act, and many alike, are brought to justice swiftly and decisively,” stated Adejobi.
He assured the public that once investigations are concluded, the suspects will face prosecution in court with credible evidence presented.
Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the officers, Adejobi emphasized the commitment of the Nigeria Police to ensuring that all those involved in the tragic incident are brought to justice.
Delta State has been rocked by a series of violent attacks on security personnel, with the recent ambush and murder of 17 military personnel adding to the grim tally.
On March 14, 17 military operatives, including high-ranking officers, were killed during a peace mission to resolve conflicts between Okuama and Okoloba communities in the area.
The horrifying nature of the murders, including beheadings and mutilations, has sparked widespread condemnation and drawn urgent calls from authorities to apprehend the perpetrators.
In response, the military conducted funeral rites to honor the slain soldiers, pledging to pursue justice for their fallen comrades and bring those responsible to account.
