Judicial Accountability Conference Set To Address Transparency And Public Confidence In Nigeria’s Judiciary
Tap iNitiative, with support from the Open Society Foundation, is gearing up to host the Judicial Accountability Conference, a crucial event aimed at addressing transparency and public confidence in Nigeria’s judiciary.
Scheduled for March 1, 2024, at the prestigious Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre in Abuja, this conference seeks to convene key stakeholders from the legal profession, including members of the Bar and Bench, media representatives, and educators. The goal is to collectively explore and propose sustainable solutions to the challenges surrounding accountability within Nigeria’s judiciary.
The conference will feature esteemed speakers and panelists, with retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Musa Dattijo Mohammed, serving as the Keynote Speaker, and retired Federal High Court Judge, Ibrahim Buba, chairing the panel discussions. Notable legal luminaries such as immediate past President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Olumide Akpata; J.S. Okutepa SAN; Professor Akinseye George, SAN; John-Aikpokpo Martins (Chairman of NBA-SPIDEL); Lilian Okenwa, ACIArb. (Editor in chief, Law and Order Society Magazine); Chukwuka Ikwuazom, SAN; Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN; Olisa Agbakoba, SAN; Mrs. Amina Agbaje (National Vice President, FIDA); and others will also participate in the discussions.
According to Mbasekei Martin Obono, Executive Director of Tap iNitiative, in a press statement made available to The Metro Lawyer (TML), the conference provides an essential platform for legal experts to collaborate on lasting solutions to Nigeria’s judicial accountability challenges.
