Court Grants Emefiele Permission To Travel Out Of FCT

Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank, has been permitted to leave the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court.

Nonetheless, the court ruled that Emefiele had to stay in Nigeria. He was limited to the Federal Capital Territory under the terms of his bail.

Emefiele had asked for a change in the terms through his attorney, Mathew Bukka, SAN.

Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, the Counsel for the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), did not raise any objections.

He told the court to ensure that Emefiele wrote an undertaking that he would remain in the country if his plea was granted.

The charge against the former governor of the CBN was also amended to 20 from 6.

The new accusations made against Emefiele consist of criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery,  procurement fraud and conspiracy to commit felony.
