ABUAD Wins 2023 Afam Osigwe National Moot Court Competition
Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) has added another feather to its cap by winning the prestigious 2023 Afam Osigwe National Moot Court Competition.
The victory has not only underscored the university’s status as Nigeria’s top institution for two years running, but also as one that surpasses older universities in the country.
The honour was brought to the institution by the ABUAD Chapter of the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria, LAWSAN. The university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Tunde Olofintila, in a statement, was quick to praise the team’s zeal, dedication, and hard work, which saw them emerge as winners from a contest pitting them against federal, state, and private universities.
ABUAD Law students began their journey to victory in April 2023, preparing diligently for the competition until May 27, 2023, when they defeated Ekiti State University at the State Level.
Thereafter, the team defeated six other universities, including Lagos State University, to emerge as the champions of South-West Nigeria. The competition culminated in a national event where ABUAD and Benue State University clashed in an intense advocacy and oral presentation contest on November 23, 2023.
At the end of the one-hour oral presentation and after a thorough assessment by the judges, ABUAD emerged as the winner, beating other top universities, such as Benue State University, University of Jos, and Rivers State University.
The university’s founder and Chancellor, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), has congratulated the team for its outstanding performance. In Babalola’s congratulatory message which was delivered in his office with the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Smranda Olarinde and the Provost, College of Law, Prof. Tunde Yebisi, in attendance, the elder statesman advised the students to see their victory this time around as a catalyst that will spur, propel, ginger, inspire and encourage them to greater attainments in the future. He urged the students to use the victory as a motivation to achieve even greater successes in the future synergy between the institute’s professional expertise and GAC Motors’ practical industry.
