Tinubu Directs Review Of Judicial Officers’ Remuneration
Prince Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), says President Bola Tinubu has directed the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission to review its recommendation on the 114 percent additional remuneration of judicial officers.
Prince Fagbemi stated this during the Nigerian Judges’ Conference of the Superior Courts at the National Judicial Institute in Abuja.
The AGF said the President also directed the Commission to come up with a realistic rate that would reflect the present economic situation in the country.
The Attorney General of the Federation, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressed confidence that the conference, which was the first since the commencement of his administration, would come with an improved disposition towards the welfare of the judiciary, especially on the issue of its independence, as well as a strong desire to foster healthy and productive relationships among all three arms.
The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola charged judicial officers in the country to work assiduously towards sustaining public confidence and trust in the judiciary.
“As sturdy and indispensable pillars of democracy, we must do all within our power to guarantee the sustenance of the public confidence reposed in us, discharging our duties without fear, favor, affection or ill-will.”
On his part, the Administrator of the NJI, Retired Justice Salisu Abdullahi, said the conference would enable judges to critically appraise the happenings and developments in their courts and improve their role in nation-building.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Strengthening Judicial Commitments to the Rule of Law and Democracy.”
