“I Will Not Pay!” By Abdul-Muhsin Abubakar Wakawa

The hausa man in his wisdom said ‘alura ya tono garma’, literally interpreted to mean don’t bite more than you can chew.
I was in utter shock just like alot of others present during the just concluded AGC when at the floor of the Annual General Meeting some Executives of the Nigerian Bar Association while giving their reports (record of stewardship) started throwing accusations on the person of the President of the Nigerian Bar Association Mr Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau SAN OON.
Though they seem to have arrived prepared and ready for what they have planned, though they seemed to have swayed the minds of the members after their eloquent presentations but they forgot that one with God is majority. They were running and scratching their butt*cks.
The NBA President (Our President) despite the plea by the only certified juju priest, our own grand father at the Bar and former President of the NBA Mr OCJ Okocha SAN, for there to be no response from the President after those weighty, though unsubstantiated allegations on the President, the voice of the people which was the voice of God prevailed and the President who was guided by the Holy Spirit (in his words) responded accordingly.
The response of the President were direct stray bullets on those making baseless allegations on him. The comments of the President has turned on the spot lights on them and now members of the Bar are fully aware of the mistake they made in electing some of them as their representatives. But the English man said ‘once beaten, twice shy…’
We have been noticing and are aware of some of the incessant goodwills and greetings from some of them! That speaks volume of the fact that there is something they are cooking which is on fire and we just wish them well, hoping they keep the fire low else it burns what they are cooking black.
To Mr President, the No. 1 lawyer presently in Nigeria and the leader of our great Association Mr Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau SAN OON, kindly note that personally, I left the NBA AGM with one strong word on my lips, ‘I WILL NOT PAY!’. Please Mr President, don’t pay and be rest assured, We have been here and we would continue to be here, extending our support to your leadership.
Continue standing as tall as your height and they shall continue staying as brack (in your Chinese man’s words) as your complexion sir.
Cheers to 363 days more to go our Leader.
