Court Adjourns Peter Obi’s Petition To June 1st

The Presidential Election Petitions Court has adjourned hearing of the Petition filed by the Labour Party and its Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, till June 1st.

The court had fixed Wednesday 9am for further hearings of their case by calling more witnesses and tendering documents, for which it allocated four hours to them.

Two key staff in the petitioners’ secretariat took ill, which made it impossible for them to proceed with the business of the day and sought an adjustment till Thursday.

Counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Abubakar Mahmoud, Wole Olanipekun (SAN) for Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, and Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not object to Kalu’s request for adjournment.

Counsel to INEC, Abubakar Mahmoud however urged the court to record the day against the petitioners and deduct it from the number of days earlier allocated to them to present their case.

The Presiding Justice, Haruna Tsammani granted Kalu’s request for adjournment till 9am on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the court would hear the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party and its Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar by 2pm on Wednesday.
