A Driving Lesson To Remember By Johnson Babalola

A 17-year-old son entered the living room where his father was reading. He greeted his father cheerfully. “Hey dad, guess what!”, he exclaimed.

“What’s up?” His father responded.

“It seems you forgot I went for my driving test this morning. I passed dad! Now, I can drive your car anywhere! I can help with running errands for you, drive to school, do other activities on my own and ask Princess out on a date. I am so happy dad, and I am sure you are very happy for me.”

“Have a seat son, let’s talk,” the father responded. “I am very proud of you. Your late mother would be very proud of you too. Unfortunately, you have only told me about the positives of driving. But son, there are negative sides to driving too. Each time you sit behind the wheel of my car or any vehicle for that matter, always remind yourself that you are in control of an equipment that can make or mar you. Yes, it can ease your movement around but at the same time, if not handled with care and a sense of utmost responsibility, can injure you, injure someone else, kill you or others. A single mistake can land you in jail and change your life forever. Part of your responsibility is to pay attention to your environment and avoid alcohol when you decide to drive. Congratulations, my son, for passing your test”.

“Thanks dad. That was the best driving lesson ever.”
