The duo of Victoria Imoh Udoh and Chinedu Patrick Aneke, have won the 2022 Justice Innocent Umezulike Foundation National Moot Court competition.
Udoh and Aneke represented University of Nigeria (UNN) at the competition.
The competition, which was Nigeria’s first live-virtual moot court competition with three stages, was contested by undergraduate law students across the country.
The UNN representatives, Udoh and Aneke, defeated Paul Branham Chima and Kefas Terri Philip from University of Benin, who came 1st runner-up.
They also won the best researcher and the best speaker in the competition which was targeted to meaningfully engage law students and create platforms for healthy inter-varsity competitions.
The winners received a cash prize of N350,000, plagues, certificates of excellence, and law books.
The law moot court competition also aims to enhance advocacy skills among upcoming lawyers in line with the foundation’s objectives to enhance excellent legal education and research.
UNN Law Faculty Dean, Prof. Ifeoma Enemuo, and some other lecturers as well as administrative staff of the faculty attended the first part of the award ceremony on October 11, 2022, at the institution’s law faculty boardroom.
In their remarks, the foundation’s co-chairmen, Dr. Cynthia Chisom Umezulike and Dr. Victor Azubike Umezulike, said the foundation would continue to advance the legacy of the late Justice Innocent Azubuike Umezulike, who was an acclaimed professor of Land and Property Law with over 25 published books as well as the longest-serving chief judge in the South East.
