The United Nations World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has developed an intellectual property policy to enhance the economic well-being of women and youths in Nigeria.
The Director General of WIPO, Mr Daren Tang, stated this during an official visit on the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami and the Minister of Science and Technology, Senator Olorunnibe Mamora in Abuja.
The Director General represented by Mrs Lorietta Asiedu, said the visit was to seek the support of policymakers on the draft policy that would bring economic benefits to intellectual property owners.
The Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Jeddy Agba explained that the ministry would continue to support the Nigerian Copyright Commission in its legislative framework in protecting intellectual property rights in the country.
Minister of Science and Technology, Senator Adeleke Mamora urged the Nigerian Copyright Commission and WIPO to check issues bothering on stolen intellectual property on traditional and alternative medicine to make the rightful owners enjoy their royalties.
