FCT CJ Hails NBA, Urges More Efforts On Human Rights, Rule Of Law

The Chief Judge, High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf has commended the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for its contribution for the promotion and protection of human rights, the rule of law and good governance in Nigeria.

He gave the commendation during the 10th anniversary of Gwagwalada, Abuja branch of the NBA, with the theme: “Honouring the Past, Celebrating the Present, Preparing the Future.

The Chief Judge, who was also the chairman of the occasion, charged them not to relent, noting that NBA’s commitment and dedication to improving law and order in the country were quite commendable.

“I like the work you are doing here, but Nigerians expect more until the country achieves our struggle for the promotion of rule of law. We must work together to achieve this aim because Mr. President and Nigerians will hold us all responsible if we fail, he stated.”

Joe Kyari Gadzama, senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and a onetime chairman, NBA Gwagwalada branch, lauded the initiative taken by the branch and commended members of the branch for their numerous and constructive efforts in moving the branch forward.

“I consider myself as progenitor of the great branch and privileged to contribute to the development of this great branch, which is more of a home to me, ‘he stated.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman Gwagwalada branch of the NBA, Barr Emmanuel Tayo Ogunjide, reassured the Chief Judge of the branch’s readiness to continue to work with the Ministry of Justice and other stakeholders to improve on the judicial system.

At the event, Hon. Justice Mwada Balami (rtd) was honoured as Life Patron of the branch, Professor (Mrs.) Josephine A.A. Agbonika, Mother of the branch, while Professor John M. Agbonika was installed as Doyen of the branch.
