The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Welfare Committee and NBA Presidential hopeful, Y. C. Maikyau, SAN was spotted at the Valedictory Court Session in honour of Hon. Justice Ejembi Eko, JSC, held at the Supreme Court to mark his Lordship’s retirement from the Bench.
It was a moment of joyful reflection on his Lordship’s sterling judicial career, as captured in the speech delivered by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Dr. Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, CFR, and other eminent members of the Bar comprising the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, SAN; the President of the NBA, Olumide Akpata; the representative of the Body of Benchers (BOB), Chief T.J.O Okpoko, OON, SAN.
They all took turns to reminisce on the remarkable exploits of the retiring Justice of the Supreme Court who spoke about his early adventure in school, practice, experience on the bench, the poor working condition of both serving and retired Judges, the independence of the judiciary, and discipline of erring Judges, amongst others.
On behalf of himself and family, His Lordship appreciated everyone who had to abandon their day’s job to attend the ceremony.
At the remarkable event, Mr. Y.C. Maikyau, SAN in his characteristic jovial and amiable manner, was seen grinning from ear to ear, whilst saluting his Learned Brother Silks, Justices and every guest at the ceremony.
