NBA Unity Bar Holds Successful April, 2022 Meeting As Y. C. Maikyau Plays Host

The April, 2022 edition of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja Branch (Unity Bar) Meeting held today at the A-Class Parks and Recreation Arena, Wuse II, Abuja.

The meeting which witnessed a large turn out of attendees was ably chaired by the Moses Ebute, SAN the Chairman of the branch, and supported by members of his EXCO.

The hybrid meeting (physical and online) also had in attendance a number of Senior Advocates of Nigeria like Ogwu James Onoja, SAN; former chairman of Unity Bar, Abdul A. Ibrahim, SAN; NBA Welfare Committee Chairman, YC Maikyau, SAN; former NBA General Secretary and also former Unity Bar chairman, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN; Dr Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN also a former NBA General Secretary; other senior lawyers, guests from other branches and quite a number of intending members of the branch, most of who were new wigs.

In his executive report, the Chairman reiterated the NBA President’s assurance to finally rest the issue of factions within the Abuja branch of the Nigerian Bar, with the creation of another branch in the FCT. This will come on the heels of the creation of the Garki Judicial Division of the Federal Capital Territory.

He also reminded members of the upcoming branch elections on the 9th of June, 2022 and outlined the guidelines for the election.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the branch’s resolve to support the children left behind by the late Chairman of the branch, Dr Hauwa Shekarau, who was a widow as at the time of her death. The motion in support of the resolution was moved by Mazi Uchenna Uche and seconded by Mrs Ruth Kaburuk.

While thanking the amiable host of the meeting, Mr Yakubu C. Maikyau, SAN for his readiness to support the branch at all times, the Chairman also called on members to support the branch in other projects like the Bar Centre, Law Week and other activities.

A vote of thanks to the host, YC Maikyau, SAN was given by Abdul A. Ibrahim, SAN after which the Chairman and other senior members of the branch presented a plaque of honour to him.

At the end of the meeting, members of the branch were treated to a sumptuous reception, with various delicacies most of which came from the host’s farm in Kwali.
