Goodwill Message By Y.C. Maikyau, SAN, FCIArb UK On The Occasion Of Uyo Bar Week Holding From 26th March, 2022 To 1st April, 2022

May I extend my felicitations to the entire leadership and members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Uyo Branch on the occasion of the Bar week holding from Saturday, 26th of March to Friday, 1st of April, 2022.
This year’s Bar Week is themed, “The Advent of the Ibom Deep Seaport and the Prospects of Maritime Law Practice in Nigeria” which has come to be recognised as one of the topical issues in the Nation’s economic landscape.
It is instructive that maritime trade plays a major role in Nigeria’s economic development, and has been identified to account for about 95 per cent of the vehicular means of Nigeria’s International Trade. What more? the importance of this year’s theme is even more underscored by the high prospects which the Deep Seaport holds for the nation’s economy, as the Seaport located in Ibaka, Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State is projected to save Nigeria an approximately €62.08 Million that stands to be lost to illegal fishing by the Chinese and European trawlers in Nigeria’s territorial waters.
This auspicious discourse therefore aims at availing legal practitioners the opportunity of cross-fertilizing ideas and foraying into how the Deep Seaport Project would strengthen the economy of the state and the country; provide job opportunities for the teeming and industrious citizens of the state; and to also set perspectives on how the Project will yield the requisite positive returns that will improve the practice of lawyers’ and boost their earning capacities.
I am excited that the Uyo Bar Week 2022 under the eminent leadership of the adroit Ememobong Udoh, Esq., will once again bear the torch in extending the frontiers of our noble profession by spearheading programmes/agenda that will dictate the pace of national development in further demonstration of the Bar’s competence, professionalism and noble pedigree.
I am even more upbeat that the illustrious discussants/facilitators at this year’s Bar Week activities will bolster the spirit of participants and provide the much needed atmosphere that will inspire confidence, exemplary leadership and good governance.
Once again, I congratulate the NBA Uyo Branch on this remarkable feat and I wish all the participants and prospective attendees at this year’s Bar Week a fruitful, eventful and epoch-making event.
LONG LIVE NBA, UYO BRANCH!
LONG LIVE THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION!!
LONG LIVE THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA!!!
