Goodwill Message By Y. C. Maikyau, SAN To NBA, Suleja Branch On The Occasion Of Her End-Of-Year Lectures

My hearty compliments to the Suleja Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association on her end of year lecture themed: “Critical Appraisal of Breach of RPC by Practitioners; what should be done differently?”.
This topic is germane in light of the ever changing global innovations and technology when juxtaposed with the standards expected of lawyers, who also want to be successful and remain relevant in the global space.
Needless to say, the Rules of Professional Conduct is one of the foremost document that guides the lawyer and the legal practice. It lays down the professional standard expected of us, who confidently call ourselves learned. Where there are breaches, it begs the question, how can lawyers who uphold the rule of law, fall prey by transgression of same ‘law’?
This lecture promises to be an educative yet piercing one; it seeks to dissect traditional methods and approaches in handling breaches by our colleagues. We would have to critically examine our profession, take into consideration the realities on ground and our ability to adjust and accommodate new ideas and solutions. I know this would not be an easy task as we may have to leave our comfort zone and look beyond the normal to find the answers needed. I look forward to hearing from the speakers and other participants on their take on this topic.
I congratulate the Chair of the Branch and it’s executives on the seamless planning and execution of this laudable event and the courage to take up this burning issue. I wish all participants successful deliberations.
GOD BLESS NBA SULEJA BRANCH
GOD BLESS NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION
GOD BLESS NIGERIA.
