Lawyer Publishes Manual On Legal Issues In Businesses

Legal practitioner, Solape Adesuyi, has written two books to assist businesses in the understanding and management of legal and operational issues.

The first, Your Business and the Law – How to Avoid Trouble Running Your Own Business, is a compendium of legal guidance for business and a directory for legal concerns of every business owner, manager or corporate body.

According to her, “it covers subjects such as contract and agreement, intellectual properties, taxes, dealing with regulatory bodies, obtaining business permits, and the role of government in business while the second, Your Business Legal Companion – Business Incorporation and its Dynamics, provides easy-to-understand details about the different types of legal structures/platforms that are available to businesses in Nigeria.

She said readers would learn about company registration requirements and modalities, family business formation and dynamics, sole proprietorship, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), as well as the formation, management, and dissolution of partnerships.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the two books at the event, Adesuyi said economic revival of Nigeria is highly dependent on the success and vibrancy of cottage business or Small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs).

According to her, for businesses to thrive, there is the need to leverage the opportunities provided by local and international laws.

“Hence, I wrote these two books to help SMEs and big corporations alike understand the basic legal requirements for successful business operations. My goal is that, through these books, people can own and operate businesses with the right insights to navigate the local and international legal environment.”

The two books were reviewed by the President and Chairman Governing Council of Institute Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), Taiwo Gbenga Owokalade, represented by Chairman, ICSAN Lagos branch, Mrs. Nkechi Anyimah, Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, Lagos Branch, Ikechukwu Uwanna & Chief Executive Officer, TOKA Business Advisory Services Limited, Mrs. Adebo Onabowale.

Chairperson of the occasion and Programmes Director, Institute for National Transformation, Mrs Juliet Binitie, during her opening remarks, stressed on the need for business owners to understand their legal positioning in business, noting that it behooves on Africans to read, understand and transform the continent.
